Our Story

The Souris Valley Museum is a regional history Museum that focuses on the human development and daily life in Southeast Saskatchewan. The Museum opened its door to the public in September 2001 and since then has been serving the community through our exhibitions, programs, outreach and events. Starting in 2017 the Museum moved from a seasonal to year-round facility, allowing the Museum to expand on our programs, outreach and events for the community to attend.

Our Vision and Mission

VISION

At the Souris Valley Museum, we want to be a welcoming museum where we teach, share, and explore Saskatchewan’s history with artifacts that tell stories of the past and enrich our community’s heritage.

MISSION

The Souris Valley Museum connects residents and visitors with the diverse history and growth of Southeast Saskatchewan, preserving and highlighting the region’s legacy through engaging exhibits and stories.

Our Role in the Museum Community

The Souris Valley Museum functions in cooperation with and as a complement to existing museum facilities within the City of Estevan and surrounding communities. The Museum works with other museums and galleries of the region to offer unique exhibits and ensure that each cultural institution can maintain their intentions without conflict. The Museum will also collaborate with other institutions, whenever possible, to offer comprehensive programming and special events to the public.

Our Values

ENGAGE

To engage with the community and create an awareness of the history and growth of Southeast Saskatchewan through the Museum’s exhibits.

EDUCATE

To share historical facts, knowledge, and stories from the 1800’s to the 1950’s from the collection of artifacts in the Museum displays by offering educational programs, school tours/public tours, outreach events, and special events.

COLLABORATE

The Souris Valley Museum is a partner in the community collaborating with other existing museums, galleries, community organizations, businesses, schools, and more to offer programming and special events to the public and community.

INCLUSIVE

The Souris Valley Museum values diversity and strives to create an inclusive environment where people of all ages, abilities, and cultural backgrounds feel welcome and respected.

Our Role In Estevan

The Souris Valley Museum strives to achieve excellence in all our programs and activities offered to the community. Through collecting, preserving, researching and exhibiting the object, images, documents and stories of Estevan and area’s past, the Museum cares for the history of the region. By complimenting permanent Museum displays with temporary and mobile displays, educational programming and special events, the Museum endeavours to provide knowledge and opportunities to diverse residents and visitors of all ages and aims to inspire a strong sense of identity and pride for Southeast Saskatchewan’s rich heritage.
